We are what we eat. This applies to our body shape, skin condition, and… male semen.

In the TV series Sex and the City, Samantha Jones complains to her friends that her lover’s semen tastes bad. Then she learns that the taste of semen can be improved with the help of certain products. This technique is not only a scripted move, the taste of a man’s semen really depends on what he eats and drinks.

We decided to figure out what determines the taste of sperm and what foods affect it.

What does semen actually taste like?

Most often, the taste of semen is described as a combination of three impressions: bitter or salty – the alkaline environment is responsible for this taste, sweet – due to sugar in the body, metallic – due to the presence of minerals and vitamins.

What determines the taste of semen?

Semen is essentially a collection of chemicals in one liquid. First, sperm are born in the testicles, then they “travel” to the epididymis, where they are stored until ejaculation. While waiting for ejaculation, sperm is enriched with various substances.

For example, with ergothioneine – this antioxidant is also produced in mushrooms and, in fact, ergothioneine gives sperm a characteristic, slightly fleshy flavor of raw mushrooms. Semen is also saturated with fructose, which fuels the sperm to survive their most important mission and also gives semen a slight sweet flavor.

Each man’s semen has its own flavor. This is for the simple reason that the body releases different, individualized concentrations of chemicals into semen.

When a man ejaculates, substances from the prostate and seminal vesicles also enter the semen. Zinc, calcium, sodium, potassium, and various enzymes come from the prostate to the sperm. And the seminal vesicles add many chemical compounds to the sperm, including amino acids, citric acid, phosphorides, and potassium.

The result is a kind of sperm cocktail. Each man has his own personal set of the above components, so each man’s semen has its own flavor. This is for the simple reason that the body releases different, individual concentrations of chemicals into semen. For example, if a man is deficient in potassium or calcium due to some factors, there will be less of these components in the semen, which in turn will definitely affect the flavor of the semen.

How can you influence the taste of semen?

First of all, you should lead a healthy lifestyle. A healthy diet, the absence of alcohol, nicotine, drugs, and caffeine have a positive effect not only on skin and body condition, but also on the taste of sperm. At the same time, not all foods that fall into the category of healthy eating improve the taste of sperm. Dairy products, for example, on the contrary, give sperm the flavor of spoiled fermented milk.

Despite all the benefits of cabbage and asparagus, these vegetables do not have a very positive effect on sperm. But when you eat fish, the taste of sperm is formed individually, and scientists have no consensus on this.

Foods that worsen the taste of semen

  • garlic
  • onion
  • broccoli
  • cabbage
  • asparagus
  • meat
  • dairy products
  • cheese
  • coffee

Products that make sperm taste better

  • pineapple
  • papaya
  • oranges, tangerines and other sweet citrus fruits
  • celery
  • parsley
  • cinnamon
  • nutmeg

It’s worth remembering that in order to improve the taste of sperm, you need to follow a diet for as long as possible. A one-day abstinence from cigarettes or alcohol, as well as temporary consumption of fruit, will only lead to an improvement in your breath. To improve the taste of your sperm, these rules must be followed constantly. C’est la vie.
