Monica Bellucci
The 78th Venice Film Festival starts on September 1. In anticipation of the red carpets and high-profile premieres (namely, in Venice, the public will finally see the film “Spencer” about Princess Diana with Kristen Stewart in the title role), we suggest indulging in nostalgia and going into the first half of the 2000s. In addition, it will be interesting to consider not only how the stars looked almost 20 years ago, but also what they wore. Indeed, due to the return of the 2000s fashion, many images can be safely copied: from dresses with sequin patterns and boho style to accessories like wide rectangular glasses and massive bracelets.
So, Angelina Jolie, Monica Bellucci, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renee Zellweger, Johnny Depp and many other stars in our fashionable film tour, where we collected photos from the red carpet, and from parties and photocalls, and from street chronicles.
2002 year
In 2002, Venice hosted the 59th film festival, and two Russian films took part in the competition program at once: “Bear's Kiss” by Sergei Bodrov and “House of Fools” by Andrei Konchalovsky, which eventually won a special jury prize. The main role in it was played by the director's wife Yulia Vysotskaya – this was their first joint creative work.
On the red carpet that year, all attention was focused on Monica Bellucci – it was in 2002 that Gaspar Noe's scandalous film “Irreversible” was released (the premiere took place at the Cannes Film Festival). With her outfit, the actress also clearly made a splash and, it seems, got into the main fashion trend of the festival of that year, which was lace. If you look closely, then Salma Hayek, Milla Jovovich and Gwyneth Paltrow have chosen the outfits with this finish.

2003 year
In 2003, a solid Hollywood trooper landed in Venice. The festival opened with Woody Allen's film “Something Else” starring Christina Ricci, and the film “21 Grams” by Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu with Sean Penn and Naomi Watts participated in the competition program.
However, that year it was the non-competition program that provided the lion's share of celebrities on the guest list: Salma Hayek and Johnny Depp came to present the film “Once Upon a Time in Mexico”, Catherine Zeta-Jones and George Clooney – the film “Unbearable Roughness”; Naomi Watts was joined by Kate Hudson – they played together in the movie “Divorce”, and Sofia Coppola, along with Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray, showed the audience “Lost in Translation”.

But the venerable actors that year managed to outshine the beginners – the film “Dreamers”, in which the young Eva Green, Louis Garrel and Michael Pitt played, excitedly discussed everything. Russia's participation in the competition also ended in triumph. Another novice cinematographer, Andrei Zvyagintsev, received the Golden Lion for the film Return, which became his directorial debut.
In general, there is something to revise from this festival, and the next fashionable ideas can be safely copied, because the fashion of the 2000s is again relevant. Look at Watts' belly cut dress, Ricci miniskirt or Zeta-Jones rectangular glasses – all of which are very modern again.

This year, again, not only the competitive premieres caused a stir among the public, because Angelina Jolie herself came to present the children's animated film “The Underwater Lads”, which was also shown during the festival. The actress voiced one of the characters, but for the premiere she also captured her adopted son Maddox. The boy is the first child of the actress – she adopted him in 2002 in Cambodia. The glamor of the 2000s can be recognized here unmistakably – even for everyday jeans, Jolie picked up a bolero embroidered with gold sequins and pointed gold shoes.
Kate Winslet, who appeared at the premiere of the film “Fairyland” in a mint-colored Temperley London dress, could not resist the shine. The boho style was just at the peak of popularity, so light dress-sundresses with an uneven hem and embroidery were worn by students on dates and movie stars on the red carpet.

2005 year
The Venice Film Festival in 2005 is probably well remembered not only by film critics, but also by ordinary film lovers, because Ang Lee's film Brokeback Mountain, a gay drama starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, took over the Golden Lion that year. The film became a real event and eventually grossed $ 178 million worldwide.
Heath Ledger also presented another competitive film – The Brothers Grimm, which also starred Monica Bellucci and Lina Headey, the future star of Game of Thrones.
Orlando Bloom's arrival caused a stir: with Kirsten Dunst he presented the film “Elizabethtown” – the fans were ready to wait for the idol for hours and did not hold back their feelings when he appeared. The actor was then, as they say, on a wave – the first “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Troy” had already been released.
There were also Russian filmmakers among the participants of the competition: Alexey German – Jr. brought the film “Garpastum”, where one of his first main roles was played by Danila Kozlovsky, after which he became known to the general public. And his neckerchief can definitely be called one of the brightest spots in the fashion selection!
Wearing hot pink in the mid-2000s was no longer necessary. Star fashionistas have switched to neutral colors and even made steel gray on the red carpet – in these dresses Anne Hathaway and Sienna Miller came.
