Vladimir Kekhman, who was recently appointed general director of the Moscow Art Theater. Gorky, gave an interview to “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”, in which he spoke about the financial difficulties of the theater.
We don't have money for an artistic director now – the previous team ruined the theater. We are thinking how to pay the advance on the 22nd. There is no money on the accounts to pay the team (395 people!) For November – December. I fired five people – managers who came with Boyakov and received a lot of money. By the end of the season, 40 more people will be laid off because contracts are ending. That's all for now. We do not have a task to look for the main director or artistic director,
– said Kehman.
He also added that there are plans to carry out major repairs in the theater, which, according to him, could cost about seven billion rubles.
I will meet with the chief architect of Moscow and the architect Sergei Tchoban, my friend. He loves this building – it's the chic of Brezhnev's Art Nouveau. We can turn it into a masterpiece
– noted Kehman.
The new director general of the theater, during a conversation with a journalist, also expressed the hope that support for the theater will be provided by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Finance, the government apparatus and the presidential administration.
The conversation, of course, also turned to the theater's repertoire policy and creative plans. Recall that recently Kekhman has already removed the sensational performance “The Wonderful Georgian” with Olga Buzova from the repertoire.
The public needs beauty today. All this minimalism, naked, disguised men, women are not needed by anyone. It's a mystery to me how this is sold in Moscow. We will have performances of a large style, because here is a unique collective of the academic Moscow Art Theater, which has been preserved thanks to Tatyana Vasilyevna Doronina,
– promised Kehman.
Vladimir Kekhman with his wife Ida
Tatiana Doronina headed the Moscow Art Theater. M. Gorky back in 1987 after the historical split of the Moscow Art Theater and took an active part in the life of the theater until recently, when the artistic director of the Moscow Art Theater. Eduard Boyakov became M. Gorky. He actually removed Doronina from management and making any decisions in the theater she created. Vladimir Kekhman has already established contact with Doronina and plans to re-engage her in work. So, he admitted that he had already consulted with Doronina on a number of issues regarding the repertoire and the economic part.
