On September 19, the USA will host the Emmy Awards. The nominees for this year are already known – it remains to wait for the announcement of the winners. But at the next ceremony, one of the most anticipated series, the continuation of which is being filmed right now, can compete for the statuettes. We are talking, of course, about the restart of “Sex and the City” called “The story continues …”.

The series was first nominated for an Emmy in 1999, and it is at this historic moment that we propose to travel back today to remember not only the first triumph of the project, but also the outfits of the actresses they chose.

In 1999, the second season of Sex and the City was on, and the public was obsessed with this new HBO show. Its premiere took place a year earlier, on June 6, 1998. In the conversations of the heroines of the series about life and love, many saw situations that were close to them, and in Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte themselves – real kindred spirits.

Perhaps that's why the show's actresses – Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall and Christine Davis – decided to appear on the Emmy as if they had just stepped off the set. The new stars of the TV screen were dressed in dresses that could well be worn by their on-screen heroines.

So, Parker, who plays fashionista and party-goer Carrie Bradshaw, came to the ceremony in a sparkling Anna Molinari dress in a banana shade and, of course, with her hair down, because a shock of blond curls is as much an integral part of Carrie's image as her obsession with shoes and handbags.

Kristin Davis appeared in public in a traditional off-the-shoulder ball gown – an outfit that the prim and eager to be in everything Charlotte York, played by the actress, would definitely approve.

Miranda, in turn, was not too sophisticated in social life, and of all the dress codes she was clearly closer to the business one, because she was focused on her career and was distinguished by determination. So it is quite logical that for the evening she would choose a simple outfit from a top and a skirt – this is how Cynthia Nixon appeared. However, Miranda would also somehow show her character, so one could well expect from her a mixture of mint green and coral.

Well, instead of a necklace, the actress chose another accessory with a meaning, which Miranda, with her civil position, would also have approved. Cynthia's top was pinned with a red ribbon – the symbol of the fight against AIDS.

Kim Cattrall's white dress was also quite in the style of Samantha. At first glance, it might seem simple, but the pleated bodice, flowing translucent skirt and open back immediately made it clear that the lady in this outfit loves to impress and look luxurious. In this look, the elegance of old Hollywood met with sexuality, without which the fashion of the early 2000s cannot be imagined. Samantha would love it!

At that ceremony, Sex and the City received its first nominations. It was nominated for Best Comedy Series, and Sarah Jessica was nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy Series that evening.

In 1999, alas, the team had to leave empty-handed. The best TV series was named “Ellie McBeal” about the everyday life of a young girl lawyer with Calista Flockhart in the title role. Well, Sarah Jessica lost in her nomination to Helen Hunt, who was noted for her role in the TV series Crazy About You.

However, it was not worth it to get upset – ahead of the series had an impressive story on the “Emmy”. Over the entire period, the show will receive 54 nominations and take seven awards, including Best Comedy Series in 2001. Parker was then nominated annually from 2001 to 2004 and eventually won an Emmy in 2004. Another statuette that year was taken home by Cynthia Nixon as the best supporting actress (it is noteworthy that her rivals were her colleagues on the series – Christine Davis and Kim Cattrall).

But although victories will come a little later, it was the actresses 'appearance at the Emmy ceremony in 1999 that is remembered as the highlight and testament to the series' first triumph. And most importantly, then peace reigned between the actresses – on stage and at the afterparty, they were inseparable. In 2004, Kim Cattrall will already be sitting separately from her colleagues, and she was not invited to the traditional party before the ceremony, as the press wrote.

The conflict that arose between Parker and Cattrall, believed to be due to the difference in salary levels, will then continue to be discussed in the press for many years, although Parker will insist that there was no conflict. The paths of Kim and the crew will eventually diverge: at first she will refuse to act in the next film, and then in the restart of the series.

But all this will be later, but for now the actresses were in the spotlight and reminded their heroines not only by their outfits, but also by the friendship that unites them.
