Recall that the princess caught a dangerous infection during a spring trip to South Africa. It is known that Charlene has already undergone several operations, after which her health condition either improved or became worse again. The princess could not return home because of the prescriptions of doctors, who so far forbid her to travel long distances. During these five months of Charlene's stay in South Africa, her husband and six-year-old twins Jacques and Gabriella visited her several times.

Due to the long absence of Princess Charlene in Monaco, rumors began to appear in the press about a possible discord in her family. Many assumed that in fact the princess was in her homeland not at all because of health problems, but because she and her husband were on the verge of divorce. It was even rumored that Charlene was leaving Monaco in a rage and had already started looking for housing in Johannesburg, where she was supposedly going to live after breaking up with Albert II. The Prince of Monaco denied everything:

She did not leave Monaco in a rage! She didn't leave because she was angry with me or anyone else. She traveled to South Africa to review the work of her foundation there and to get some rest with her brother and friends. It was supposed to be only a week, 10 days maximum, but she is still there because she had this infection, all these complications occurred,

– Albert II previously commented on rumors of divorce.
