In the past few days, Apple, Instagram and YouTube have announced innovations almost simultaneously that have alarmed users in earnest.

Let's start with Apple. The corporation has launched a test mode called Digital Legacy, which will be responsible for the transfer of all data from iCloud in the event of the death of a user to one of his trusted representatives. If earlier the relatives and friends of a deceased person did not have an easy way to access his iCloud account without a password, now every fan of the “apple” technology can take care in advance of what will happen to his photos, videos, documents and other data after his of death. Now each user will be able to choose up to five people who, in the event of his death, will have access to all the information stored on his devices. While the feature works only in the beta version of iOS 15.2, but soon it will be available to all users after the launch of the full update.

New Digital Legacy Feature

Meanwhile, Instagram began testing several new features at once – the “take a break” function and paid subscription to the accounts of popular bloggers. The first tool will allow you to independently adjust the time intervals (for 10, 20 or 30 minutes), after which the application will offer to take a break from scrolling the tape and do other things. In return, the app will also give you some tips on what to do during your break, such as breathing exercises, listening to a few of your favorite tracks, or doing something from your to-do list. The new feature is designed to help users manage their time on social media more efficiently.

Rumors about the function of introducing a paid subscription to bloggers' pages appeared at the beginning of the year, and now the social network has begun extensive testing. The main idea behind the Instagram Subscriptions feature is to pay a small, regular cash fee to view exclusive content on the pages of your favorite bloggers. Those bloggers who want to hide part of their stories from the main stream of users and restrict access to them using a paid subscription will connect to this subscription.

Instagram has already added this service to the US version of the platform. In the Russian version of the application, the cost of the Instagram Subscriptions package is still 99 rubles. How many bloggers a user can view per month for this amount, as well as other details of the innovation are still unknown.

In the near future, YouTube plans to hide information about the number of dislikes under a particular video from users. At the same time, viewers will still have the opportunity to put a “thumbs down”: the statistics of negative responses to videos will now be available only to content authors. YouTube expressed the hope that this measure will help protect content producers from hate attacks, as well as reduce the risk of massive attacks on authors, when the number of dislikes is intentionally increased for some reason.
